Needles, Needles, and More Needles
Tonight I got round three of my needles for India...
I am not someone that loves getting needles, especially when I have to get four rounds of needles that cost me over $1400, and make me ill. Luckily, I do have a great medical plan, and three of my vaccinations were in pill form, that were covered.
These are the vaccinations I got, and my travel doctor assured me that next time I plan on going to a country like India I will only have to get a few;
*Tetanus, Dipthena, Pertussis
*Measles, Mumps, Rubella
*Influenza
*Hep A&B
*Typhoid
*Japanese Encephalitis
*Rabies
*Typhoid Fever
*Malaria
The first round of needles made me very sick. I got them on a Thursday, and I had to take Friday off of school. I was sick with general aches and pains, cold sweats, fatigue, and a headache. I didn't get out of bed for about 36h. It was awful:( It also made me have some intense anxiety. To be honest, I thought I might get sick, but I had no idea it would be so intense. So I decided to wait a while to take the pills for Typhoid Fever that needed to be taken before I leave. On a positive note, I get allergies in the spring, and the Typhoid Fever pills really helped with that. I started taking them and noticed my allergies decreased dramatically, and there were no side effects that I noticed besides that.
On a side note, my travel doctor keeps reminding me to wear loose clothing, and be prepared for culture shock. He says that the dynamic between men and women is very different there than any country I have previously visited. I am very interested to see how this all works out for me. I am someone who got culture shock moving to London, England where everyone spoke English and I felt safe most of the time. I also have a large heart that breaks for children and animals... I was also told I should not get licked, scratched or bit by any small mammals. So no petting random dogs, monkeys, or another cute animals. This is going to be tough!
It's hard to believe I will be in India less than a month from now!
